MILITARY SUPPORT TEAM IN THE NEWS!

The Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church recently launched a new section on their website for “Local Church News.” FUMCO’s Military Support Team’s tremendous outreach and volunteer efforts was one of the first stories profiled! Please take a moment to read the article HERE.

UMTV: MILITARY SUPPORT TEAM

Reed Galen from United Methodist Communications was recently dispatched from Nashville to do a story about our wonderful Military Support Team. The video filmed the cookie packing process, the sewing group making adaptive clothing for military amputees, children writing thank you cards, and welcoming home one of our soldiers. We invite you to take a look at some of our church members hard at work for our troops!

ABOUT THE MILITARY SUPPORT TEAM:
The Military Support Team of the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo was organized for the purpose of providing support and encouragement for our military members serving in Iraq and, now, Afghanistan.  Through this mission we have supported numerous units such as the 82d Airborne, 10th Mountain Division, the Florida Army National Guard, and wounded veterans at Walter Reed Hospital, just to name a few.

Some of our most successful efforts have been to provide cookies, toiletries, magazines and other treats and items to members we are supporting. We also send out Christmas stockings each year that are made from camouflage materials and contain a dozen homemade cookies, candies, personal hygiene items, and a note from a school-aged child wishing the service member a Merry Christmas and thanking them for their service.

We invite you to attend one of our meetings (usually held on the second Sunday of each month) to meet other veterans and their families, as well as our wonderful, supportive volunteers. Lunch will be served and there is no cost.
